Who is Slater for?
Film and TV crew who work for themselves: grips, gaffers, best boys, ACs, camera operators, DITs, DPs and drone operators. It works whether you only bill your day rate, rent out your own gear, or do both on the same job.

How is this different from Wave, QuickBooks, or an invoicing app?
Those apps start at the invoice. Slater starts at the job. Wave can tell you an invoice went out. It can't tell you what gear went with it, what your rate was, or whether that package is already booked next Tuesday. In Slater all of that is on the job, so the invoice is mostly done before you open it.

I get paid through Cast & Crew, EP, or GreenSlate. Do I still need this?
Payroll pays you for payroll days. It doesn't track the gear you rented on those days, your kit fees, or the jobs you invoice yourself. Log every job in Slater, payrolled or not, and you get one work history, one view of what you earned, and invoices for everything payroll doesn't cover.

Can my clients pay invoices online?
Yes. Connect a Stripe account and every invoice gets a pay button for card or bank transfer. You can ask for a deposit up front, and payments are marked on the invoice when they come in, so you're not checking your bank to see who paid. The money goes straight to your own account. Slater doesn't take a cut.

Do I have to move all my old jobs over?
No. Start with your next job and bring the rest over when you're ready. Import handles past jobs, gear, packages and expendables from a spreadsheet, a CSV, a pasted list, or a PDF rental sheet that Slater reads for you. Most people finish in minutes.

Will there be a phone app?
Yes, a native app for Slater is on the roadmap. Until then, Slater runs in your phone's browser, so you can log hours, check a job's details or send an invoice from set. Add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.

Who’s building Slater?
A working grip. Slater started as the system I built to run my own jobs, gear and invoices, after years of spreadsheets, notes apps and a folder of PDFs. Every feature comes from real crew telling us what slows them down, and you can reach the person building it by email.

What happens to my data?
It's yours. Everything is encrypted, card details are handled by Stripe and never touch our servers, and we don't sell your information. You can download all of your data from Settings at any time, and deleting your account removes it.
